Lanz N Bulldog Tractor with Magic Motor
designed and built by Bruce Geange

Prototype

The Lanz N Bulldog tractor was imported into New Zealand in the 1930s in large numbers and was equipped with three forward speeds and one reverse. The  engine, which had a single cylinder, was started by using a blowlamp to heat a hot bulb, located in the front of the machine below the radiator, up to a temperature that would ignite the crude oil fuel. Once started the engine ran at 540 rpm. Because the engine had just a single cylinder there were two large flywheels located each side of the engine and represented in the model by the Contrate Wheels. A feature of the prototype was the thumping sound of the running engine. Because of the lack of balance inherent with a single cylinder engine the tractor tended to bounce on its wheels when not moving.

Comments

This is a general model building plan. The model has working steering (the tricky bit) and is powered by a Magic Motor. Further pictures are available on CDRom from the editor
