March Madness at Motuoapa.

“Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Hear Ye. There will be a gathering of the Meccano clan at Motuoapa on 20 March 2004!!” and the word went out and from around the world they came.
Weeell, nearly the truth. We did have two visitors, Tony and Cheryl Rednall from England who timed their travels to coincide.

Brian Hickson's supersonic dragster

Twenty four Meccano modellers registered and a total of 46 family and friends sat down to dinner on Saturday night.

A postal entry from Tin Lawrence of USA

There were models on display, models to view on the television screen, and Dragster models to race (at various speeds) across the floor.

Simon Moody, John Denton and Daryl Anderson watch a start, with Lo Nichols peeping from behind.

The sun shone, conversation was continual (and at times quite a roar), information freely exchanged, cameras clicked and whirred, knitting needles clicked, beaches were walked, money was exchanged for parts (to both parties satisfaction), the editor received two articles and some promises (thank you), wine was drunk, and excellent food consumed, and in total , a very enjoyable weekend was had.

A "VROOM" of dragssters. The entries assembled in the pits before the race start.
