Living Treasures

The Living Treasures exhibition at the Museum of Wellington City and Sea was opened on 8 October 2003 and will run for several months. Items displayed were selected from the museum's extensive collection by six prominent local people. These included Richard Taylor, spfx (special effects) artist and director of Weta Workshop, a place recognised internationally  for its contribution to the film industry in particular the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Richard Taylor selected two ship models, one being the Meccano Endeavour built by John Ince and entered in the International Society of Meccanomen competition about eight years ago. Like many people, Richard had a Meccano set in his youth and in the words of the museum staff was "blown away" by this working replica.

The model is on indefinite loan to the museum. (Photos by John Ince)
