A tribute to the late Jock Clouston
by Chris Morton
It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Jock Clouston on 18 October
2003.
Jock was a man I had a lot of respect for as he had a
varied life and could talk on many levels on widely differing subjects: Ex RNZ
Navy, shepherd, rabbiter, piano-accordion player, rugby player, Turakina
resident for 45 years, collector extraordinaire immortalised in the book
‘Blokes and Sheds’, member of MWT Meccano Club, etc.
My strongest memory of Jock would have to be as an
inveterate magpie and I mean this
in the nicest possible way, as I think there must be very few mechanical objects
and devices that he had not explored and dismantled, and if some did not reach
complete reassembly that was Jock.
Jock’s Meccano collection reflected his collecting nature
and invariably at our MWT Meccano club ‘antique show and tell’, Jock would
have something to show. He disposed of his Meccano in recent years but this did
not diminish his interest.
I will miss his smiling face and I am quite sure that many
others will share the same sentiments.
Chris Morton.
