Outfit 10
1958-1963 Light Red/Green Period

This period saw the introduction of the four draw oak cabinet and a lighter shade of red and green paint.  The outfit shown here, would have been produced at the very end of this period.  The manuals shown below were introduced with the ''New Meccano'' in 1962, towards the end of the light red/green period.  The zinc/yellow/black period didn't start until 1964.  So there was a two year overlap period when the new manuals, outfits and parts were produced in light red/green.

Four Drawer Oak Cabinet

The pouch shown above holds the instruction leaflets for the twenty models designed for this set.  Models 10-1 to 10-20.

The cabinet has four drawers, of which the top drawer is the deepest drawer, in order to accommodate the Boilers and can only be fitted at the top of the cabinet. The 6" pulley and 2 cylinders are mounted on a yellow card and just above the cylinders the card is turned upwards which may give the impression of another division divider.  Several of the drawers have "layers" of parts on cards, especially the right hand compartment marked "X" in drawer 1.

To the left can be seen the "Presentation Chest" version of outfit 10 that Meccano Limited produced in the period 1958-60.  This outfit was marketed alongside the new 4-drawer cabinet version.  The chest had two internal lift-out trays.  The photograph shows an outfit from 1959, with the parts still strung onto the stringing cards.  Being made for only two years, the 10P outfit was quite rare.  To view the stringing cards for this set, visit Outfit 10 1950.

This outfit can be seen on Melvyn Wright's Light Red & Green web site.
